    Illustrations include an 1846 sketch of St. Clairsville, a view of Bellaire in 1887, and Martin's Ferry in 1887.
    Among the many and diverse topics covered in the booklet are:
    the Battle of Captina, the adventures of Indian hunter Lewis Wetzel, the life of Arthur St. Clair, Benjamin Lundy, early abolitionist, Indian attacks, a treatise entitled "Our Cabin, or Life in the Woods", Jake Heatherington and his mule Jack, the birthplace of William Dean Howells, etc.
